Home > Arguments for the Bible's corruption
Morning and evening created 2nd day- Gen 1:6-8
Earth created 3rd day - Gen 1:10
Sun created fourth day - Gen 1:14-19
Bible: God rested on the 7th day (Gen 2:2, 3 and Exodus 31:17) (refreshed)
Logic: God never gets tired (Surah 2:225) neither sleep nor slumber overtakes him.
Bible: Mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds- Matt 13:31-32
Science: Seed of the Orchid flower is smaller than the Mustard seed.
"The Bible contradicts science and logic in ways that show it's not Allah's pure word as Jesus (peace be upon him) delivered it. It says the earth has ‘four corners' (Revelation 7:1)—a flat shape science disproves—or that a mustard seed is the smallest (Matthew 13:32), when smaller seeds exist. Logic falters too: how can God rest (Genesis 2:2) if He's all-powerful? The Qur'an warns of such distortions: ‘So woe to those who write the scripture with their own hands, then say, "This is from Allah"' (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:79).
In Islam, the Qur'an aligns with reason and reality: ‘We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves' (Surah Fussilat, 41:53)—it reflects Allah's creation, like the expanding universe (Surah Adh-Dhariyat, 51:47). Jesus, a messenger—‘He said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah"' (Surah Maryam, 19:30)—taught truth, not these errors. The Bible's flaws come from corruption; the Qur'an corrects them with Allah's flawless guidance."
Jesus already offers a perfect response for this charge in Matthew 7:3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" — Indeed, the number of apparent scientific errors in the Qur'an is much more numerous and egregious than in the Bible. Just a small sample:
"Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?" 21:30
Errors: heaven and earth were never a connected entity, and living things aren't made from water; they just rely on water, among many other substances.
"And We placed within the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shake with them, and We made in it broad ways - that they may find their way." 21:31
Errors: Mountains are not "set" in the earth, and they do not reduce earthquakes.
"And We made the sky a protected ceiling, and yet they turn away from its signs." 21:32
Errors: The sky is not and has no ceiling.
"He is created from a drop emitted — proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs" (86:5-7)
Errors: Human sperm is not located between the backbone and the ribs.
"Until he reached the setting of the sun: he found it setting in a spring of murky water" 18:86
Errors: The sun is not setting in muddy water.
"And there is a lesson for you in cattle: We give you to drink of what is in their bellies — between excretion and blood — milk pure, tasty for those who drink it." 16:66
Errors: Cow milk is located nowhere near between excretion and blood.
"Indeed, the likeness of Jesus to Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him: ‘Be!' - and he was." 3:59
& "Among His signs is that He created you from dust, and then, behold, you are human beings dispersing." 30:20
& "Allah created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then made you pairs." 35:11
& "He it is Who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot…" 40:67
& "Your Lord said to the angels: ‘Indeed, I am creating a human being from dust.' " 38:71
Errors: Not only are these claims contradictory, but also biologically wrong.
Now, the muslim response to these challenges will unsurprisingly be: "But you need to read these verses in context, and you can't just read everything as if it was a factual statement; it may be a metaphor or have a deeper meaning."
That is of course true — but if we ought to apply this standard to the Quran, then most assuredly we also have to apply it to the Bible. And as soon as we do, we quickly see that the supposed scientific errors vanish into dust:
"God resting": Resting does not necessitate exhaustion — one simply rests once the work is done. The deeper point is to illustrate the model for a 7-day-week for humans
"Mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds": This parable isn't about what seed is the smallest in an absolute sense; it's about a tiny seed that grows into a large tree. Orchid flower seeds obviously don't grow into large trees.
"Four corners of the earth": This passage is part of a vision with symbolic meaning, and is not intended to be understood as a statement of fact.
