This module looks at the doctrine of the Trinity compared to the Islamic doctrine of Tawhid. Even the Quran is unclear on the Trinity!
This provides a precise definition of the Trinity based on Christian orthodoxy: God is ONE ESSENCE existing eternally in THREE distinct co-equal PERSONS (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
This will analyze Surah 5:116, which depicts the Trinity as worshiping Jesus and Mary alongside God. This is not, (and never has been) Christian doctrine, but rather illustrates a misunderstanding within early Islamic thought regarding this fundamental Christian belief.
Islam's Tawhid posits a mathematical, solitary oneness that requires creation to express relational attributes but Christian monotheism reveals a relational oneness. Within the Trinity, love and communion are essential and eternal, existing within the Godhead long before the world was made.
