The Quran Verse
Surah 24:2:
The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse—lash each one of them with a hundred lashes...
The Contradiction (The "Lost" Verse of Stoning):
While Surah 24:2 prescribes 100 lashes, Islamic Law (Sharia) prescribes death by stoning (Rajm) for married adulterers.
The Hadith Evidence:
According to Sahih Muslim 1691 and Sunan Ibn Majah 1944, the second Caliph, Umar, claimed there was a "Verse of Stoning" in the Quran that was recited during Muhammad's life. Aisha reportedly said the verse was written on a paper under her bed and was eaten by a goat/sheep after the Prophet died.
This creates a massive problem for the doctrine of perfect preservation (Hifz). If a central legal penalty (stoning) is practiced but the verse for it is missing from the physical Quran, the text is objectively incomplete.
Furthermore, it highlights a contradiction: did God command lashing (Surah 24) or stoning (the "lost" verse)? The confusion suggests a text in flux.
