To demonstrate divine provision, the text reiterates a visual observation of marine geography found throughout the mid-Meccan period.
The Quran Verse
Surah 35:12:
And not alike are the two bodies of water. One is fresh and sweet, pleasant for drink, and one is salty and bitter. And from each you eat tender meat and extract ornaments which you wear...
This serves as a thematic continuation of Surah 25:53, presenting the world's waters as two distinct, separated systems.
The text treats freshwater and saltwater as static, binary opposites that meet but remain fundamentally partitioned. In reality, Earth's hydrology relies on a highly dynamic, global water cycle where oceans feed evaporation, creating rain that feeds fresh rivers, which inevitably discharge back into the sea via massive mixing zones (estuaries/brackish water). The simplistic visual contrast lacks an accurate global perspective of fluid dynamics.
