The Quran Verse
Surah 42:29
And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and what He has dispersed throughout them of creatures (dābbah). And He, for gathering them when He wills, is competent.
Modern Islamic apologists frequently cite this verse to claim that the Quran miraculously predicted the existence of extraterrestrial life, because it mentions creatures dispersed within the "heavens."
The Philological Reality:
The Arabic word used here is dābbah. Lexicographically, dābbah does not mean generalized "life" or intelligent spiritual entities (like angels or jinn). It refers explicitly to terrestrial, land-dwelling animals, beasts of burden, or crawling organisms that physically walk upon a solid ground surface (as reinforced by Surah 24:45: "Allah has created every dābbah from water. And of them are those that move on their bellies, and of them are those that walk on two legs...").
By stating that terrestrial, crawling beasts (dābbah) are actively dispersed throughout the "heavens" (the sky), the text betrays a primitive, atmospheric view of outer space. It assumes the upper celestial layers are physical, habitable terrains akin to earth's pastures, completely unaware of the lethal radiation, lack of liquid water, and absolute vacuum of deep space which makes the survival of crawling, terrestrial animals biologically impossible.
