Home > Surah 46 - The Wind-Curved Sandhills
This is one of the most famous verses used in Christian-Muslim debate. Muhammad is commanded to say:
Surah 46:9:
Say, 'I am not something unprecedented among the messengers, nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I only follow that which is revealed to me, and I am not but a clear warner.'
Contrast this absolute lack of assurance with the explicit certainty of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. Jesus declares exactly what will happen to Him, exactly why He is dying, and guarantees eternal security to His followers ("I go to prepare a place for you," John 14:2; "No one can snatch them out of my hand," John 10:28).
If the guide himself explicitly states under divine command that he does not know his own ultimate fate or the fate of his followers, on what logical basis can a person risk their eternal salvation following him—especially when he claims to confirm a previous savior (Jesus) who claimed absolute authority over life, death, and judgment?
