Home > Jesus is God in Mark's Gospel
This is also mentioned in Matthew 16:28 and Luke 9:27. In all three Gospels this happens immediately before the Transfiguration.
Mark 9:1:
And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”
“some standing here” - In the very next verses, three disciples—Peter, James, and John—are singled out (Mark 9:2). This narrative move signals fulfillment in the Transfiguration.
Jesus begins by declaring to the crowd and disciples that some standing there will not taste death before they see the "Kingdom of God come with power."Jesus speaks with sovereign authority ("Truly I say to you") and positions himself as the one who knows the timing of the Kingdom’s manifestation.
