Home > Torah - Exodus Stories in the Quran
One of the miraculous things that Moses could do to verify to the people of Israel and to Pharaoh that he was sent from God. It was when he would put his hand in his cloak and it would come out all lepous.
Exodus 4:6: Again, the Lord said to him, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” And he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow.
But when the Quran is detailing the same event it actually has a completely different description. An opposite description in fact. It says and draw in your hand to your side it'll come out white without disease.
Surah 20:22: And press your hand to your side; it will come out white, without a blemish—another sign.
So in the Bible it says it'll come out leprous which is a disease. But the Quran gets this detail wrong and says it'll come out white but without any disease. That is a contradiction.
The Quranic text attempts to "protect" Moses from the perceived indignity of a disease, failing to realize that the power of the miracle lies precisely in God’s ability to manipulate the most feared condition of that era.
The Quranic version is a simplified, sanitized retelling that loses the legal and cultural significance of the original event.
