Home > Torah - Leviticus to Deuteronomy Stories in the Quran
It is recorded in Numbers 16) that Korah, a Levite, leads a rebellion against the priestly authority of Aaron. He and his followers are swallowed by the earth in the wilderness.
Anachronism and Misplacement: The Quran identifies him as "Qarun." Instead of a wilderness rebel, he is depicted as an incredibly wealthy man in Egypt associated with Pharaoh and Haman (Surah 28:76–82, 40:24).
The Sin: The Biblical Korah’s sin is a challenge to the Divinely appointed priesthood; the Quranic Qarun’s sin is arrogance regarding his treasures. Furthermore, the Quranic inclusion of Haman (a Persian figure from the Book of Esther) in Pharaoh’s court is a significant historical anachronism.
