Home > Torah - Leviticus to Deuteronomy Stories in the Quran
(Deuteronomy 6:4): "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one [Echad] Lord."
Unity vs. Singularity: While both emphasize oneness, the Quranic Tawhid (Surah Ikhlas 112) is a reaction against the Trinity and the Sonship of Christ.
The Word "Echad": The Hebrew Echad often implies a compound unity (the same word used for "one flesh" in Genesis 2:24). The Quran uses Ahad or Wahid to argue for an absolute, mathematical singularity that excludes the possibility of God having a Son (Surah 4:171), directly contradicting the New Testament fulfillment of the Shema where Christ is identified as the "one Lord" (1 Cor 8:6).
