1. Erasure of the Ancient Near Eastern Theophany:
Surah 51:28 reduces the visitors of Abraham strictly to created, functional angels (malāʾikah). This directly alters the foundational narrative of Genesis 18, where one of the three figures is explicitly identified as Yahweh manifesting physically to converse directly with Abraham and receive his hospitality.
2. Systematic Theological Retrofitting:
Stripping the event of its original theophanic character highlights a systematic effort to scrub physical divine manifestations from prior scriptures. For a polemicist, this theological revision conflicts with the Quranic claim to be a text that confirms and protects (muṣaddiq) the previous revealed Scriptures.
Surah 51:28 (Adh-Dhāriyāt) records the divine messengers reassuring Abraham after his initial fear, identifying themselves purely as angelic delegates sent to execute judgment upon the people of Lot and convey glad tidings of a learned son.
In Genesis 18, one of the three guests is explicitly Yahweh manifested in human form, who converses directly with Abraham, receives his hospitality, and details the upcoming judgment on Sodom. In Surah 51, they are strictly reduced to created angels (Mala'ikah).
The Dilemma: If the Quran is a Musaddiq (a confirmer) of the Torah, why does it strip the Genesis account of its profound Christophany/Theophany? A polemicist can use this to show that the Quran systematically retrofits historical records to scrub out any instances of God manifesting in the physical world, which directly clashes with the very scriptures it claims to validate.
