In the Biblical account, Solomon builds the Temple, receives wisdom, but later falls into idolatry.
1 Kings 6:1
ESV
In the four hundred and eightieth year after the people of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the house of the Lord.
1 Kings 3:9–12
ESV
Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”
It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you.
1 Kings 11:9–11
ESV
And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep what the Lord commanded. Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant.
The Quran has a lot to say about Solomon in Surah 21:78–82;, 27:15–44 and 34:12–14. Solomon (Sulayman) in the Quran is a wise and just prophet-king, blessed by Allah with knowledge and power, who governs with justice and devotion, commanding the winds, jinn, and animals. Some selected relevant verses are given below:
Surah 21:78–79
"And [mention] David and Solomon, when they judged concerning the field when the sheep of the people had strayed therein by night; and We were witnesses to their judgement. And We gave understanding of the case to Solomon..."Surah 27:15
"And We gave Solomon understanding of the matter, and to each [of them] We gave knowledge."Surah 27:18–19
“Until, when they came upon the valley of the ants, one of the ants said, ‘O ants, enter your dwellings, so that Solomon and his soldiers do not crush you without realising it.’
So he smiled, amused at her speech, and said, ‘My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favour that You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteousness that pleases You…’”Surah 27:44
“My Lord! Indeed, I have wronged myself, and I surrender with Solomon to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.”Surah 34:12
"And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind blowing by his command, gently wherever he intended.Surah 34:13
"And of the devils [jinn], some dived for him, and did other work besides that. And We kept guard over them."
The Quran presents an idealised Solomon, emphasising his control over jinn, winds, and animals, his wisdom, and the Queen of Sheba’s submission, while omitting his biblical failings, resulting in a portrayal that highlights miraculous powers and moral perfection rather than covenant faithfulness and human fallibility.
There is mention of submission to Allah rather than to Yahweh which is following another god for the Israelites.
